How to Send GIFs on WhatsApp

When things become too quiet in group chat, GIF images come to save them. From funny to sweet to straight, you can be anything you want. Here’s how to send GIF files directly to WhatsApp, and there’s no need for a third-party application.

WhatsApp on iPhone and Android comes with a built-in tool for finding, sending and updating GIF files (backed by great GIPHY service). Everything happens from the keyboard view in chat.

To get started, open the “WhatsApp” app on your phone and go to Chat. Here, click the Stickers icon at the end of the text box.

This will replace the keyboard with the Labels section. From here, click the “GIF” button at the bottom to switch to the GIF files section.

You will see common GIFs. Swipe up to scroll through all common GIFs, or swipe left or right to switch between different sections. On the left, you’ll find GIFs groups based on topics (such as Love, Sad, Haha, and more).

Let’s try searching for a GIF. Tap the Search icon (represented by a magnifying lens) in the lower-right corner.

This will open a full screen search box. Find a GIF.

Here. It can be something specific, such as a show or movie, or it can be something general, such as mood or emotions.
When you find the GIF that you want to send, click its thumbnail.

GIF feature in WhatsApp also allows you to favorite GIF.

To prefer a GIF, all you have to do is star-mark the image. When you are in chat, tap and hold GIF and then select the “Star” option.

Star-starred GIF images will appear in the star-starred section of the GIF picker window.

To view recently used GIF, click the “Most Recent” button in the upper right corner of the GIF section.
